PM, army chief discuss security situation

PM, COAS discuss comprehensive approach to be adopted to fight terrorism in the country

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Wednesday called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to discuss the current security situation of the country and the ongoing military operations in North Waziristan and Khyber Agencies.


According to an official handout issued by the Prime Minister House, the PM and the COAS discussed the comprehensive approach to be adopted to fight terrorism in the country. They also stressed on an effective and meaningful role of National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta) in fighting the menace of terrorism.

The PM lauded the historic role of Pakistan armed forces. He said: “The sacrifices rendered by our jawans backed by resolve of the nation will purge this country of terrorism and extremism.”

Inter-Services Intelligence Director General Lt General Zaheerul Islam also called on the PM. The official handout said Gen Zaheer met with prime minister as a farewell call. The ISI chief is going to retire on November 7.
