Rapid progress is being made towards launching a pilot project for providing scooties to working women in Lahore within three months.
This was stated during a meeting regarding Implementation of Women Package 2014.
Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheedud Din, who chaired the meeting, said that no society could progress without active participation of women in the development process.
Women Development Secretary Irum Bukhari informed the meeting about the implementation of the Women Package 2014.
She said that under a phased programme, women were being imparted training in skills through various institutions.
The meeting also reviewed steps for promotion of awareness regarding legislation for the protection of women, especially the law against harassment of women at workplace, provision of loans through Akhuwat and Rozgar Bank, training at the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), establishment of family courts at district level and the programme of provision of training to minority women and wives of workers in various skills.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of the orders regarding free registration of children of low-income families at birth and operation of canteens by women contractors in all training and educational institutions for women.
The meeting decided that only women contractors will be awarded contracts of canteens in women universities.
The participants stressed the need for better coordination between focal persons of various departments that were working on the Women Package.
The meeting was informed that 188,878 chickens were provided during current financial year to the women associated with the poultry sector.
“Progress is also being made towards setting up of a separate desk for women complainants at all police stations of the province,” the participants said.
Hameeda Waheedud Din directed that early implementation of Women Package 2014 should be ensured for economic empowerment of women.
Women Ombudsperson Dr Mira Phailbus and representatives of Punjab Skills Development Fund, Management and Professional Development, Industries Department, Commerce and Investment Department, TEVTA, Transport Department, Local Government and Community Development Department, Health Department, School Education Department, Higher Education Department, Minority Affairs and Human Rights Department, Labour and Human Resource Department, Livestock and Dairy Development Department, Board of Revenue Department and Police Department also attended the meeting.
