Embezzling Funds: NAB arrests PHA employee

A PHA employee was arrested for allegedly helping embezzle Rs400 million from a land purchase deal in 2012.

PESHAWAR: An employee of the Provincial Housing Authority (PHA) was arrested by National Accountability Bureau Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday for allegedly helping embezzle Rs400 million from a land purchase deal in 2012. According to a press release, Farhad Khan, a clerk, assisted former PHA land acquisition collector Naveed Qadir. Qadir is the main accused in the case for embezzling while purchasing land for a housing scheme for government officials and the public in Moza Darwaza, Nathiagali at an exorbitant rate. The press release stated that being a clerk posted at Land Acquisition Section of the PHA, Khan withdrew an amount of Rs5.4 million in cash from the official account of land acquisition collector with mala fide intent. “The accused was also involved in distribution of kickbacks to government officials along with Naveed Qadir who is presently in judicial custody at Central Prison Peshawar,” it added.
