Nawaz to chair high profile polio committee meeting on Wednesday

All chief ministers, governor of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, AJK prime minister expected to attend the meeting

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will chair a Polio Steering Committee meeting on Wednesday.

Chief ministers off all the provinces, CM Gilgit-Baltistan, Prime Minister Azad and Jammu Kashmir, Governor Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, federal ministers for information, defence, and interior are expected to attend the meeting.

Representatives of WHO, UNICEF, World Bank and JICA are also expected to attend the meeting.

The meeting follows letters he had dispatched to chief ministers of all provinces, urging them to take urgent steps to tackle the disease in their respective states.

Reported polio cases in Pakistan have soared to 231 cases this year, the most in a decade.

Fata 150, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 48, Sindh 23, Balochistan seven and Punjab three.
