Political parties have proposed the federal government conduct local government (LG) elections in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) as well.
A day-long consultation workshop titled ‘Provincial Consultation to Mobilise Civil Society to Strengthen Local Government System in Pakistan’ was organised by Sangat Development Foundation in collaboration with Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. The event was held on Saturday at Pearl Continental Hotel.
Participants from Fata demanded the central government announce LG polls in tribal areas on a priority basis. The participants complained political systems have been damaged because of intervention by security forces.
At the workshop, Awami National Party leader Ghulam Ahmad Bilour discussed devolution, saying the 18th Amendment has not yet been implemented properly. He said his party supports devolution but the provinces have not yet gained power in all areas.
