KARACHI:

Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) general secretary for Sindh, Nihal Hashmi, has urged transporters to reduce the fare of public transport vehicles, so that the common people of Sindh could also enjoy Nawaz Sharif's people-friendly policies.

He was addressing a press conference at the PML-N house in Karachi on Sunday.

Hashmi said that the PML-N government had started development work across the country and had announced a special package for Karachi, including the Lahore-Karachi motorway, the Karachi Circular Railway as well as work on the Lyari Expressway.

"The country is facing so many difficulties not only due to territorial conflicts but also the internal political crises," said Hashmi. "Despite all these issues, the PML-N has consistently drawn out people-friendly policies since taking over the government."

According to Hashmi, the federal government had lifted the ban on hiring in government departments and institutions. He asked the Sindh government to strictly adhere to merit when hiring people for government jobs as no anomalies would be tolerated in the hiring process. Hashmi added that they can continue the reconciliation process between political parties but will not support corruption at any level.

Referring to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa as a polio-affected province, Hashmi urged the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf president, Imran Khan, to put an end to his 'undemocratic' stance so that the K-P could also grow like other parts of the country.

He added that the people of Pakistan had rejected the politics of dharnas (sit-ins). "In K-P, there are 7,000 schools without the basic infrastructure. I don't know why Imran Khan doesn't take a step to improve education standards in the province."

Hashmi also urged the Sindh government, Rangers personnel and the police to provide full security to the Muharram processions to stop anti-state elements from carrying out terror activities, especially in Karachi.
