Agenda setting: PM orders curriculum overhaul for schools
According to a hand-out issued by PM Office on Thursday, the proposed amendments will include chapters aimed at promoting the appreciation of the constitutional democracy for the country’s progress. It will also include merits of pluralism in international and national context.
The new curriculum will strengthen the knowledge base of students to counter misunderstandings surrounding constitutional democracy, the statement claims.
“It will also help to enhance appreciation of modes of accountability like judicial oversight, media, freedom of speech, right to information and elections,” it stated.
To achieve these objectives, the PM Office has directed the HEC to coordinate with academics, universities and publishers to develop, within two months, grade-appropriate material.
This content will include fables, essays, speeches, teaching guides, extra-curricular activities, examinations and other relevant interventions, for all classes from the earliest years to the university level. The curriculum is for both public and private institutions.

It would be better to teach English along with an elective local language (Pashto, Sindhi, Seraiki, Punjabi, Balochi) or Urdu from the beginning. The Urdu-medium system shatters any chances of a student being able to compete at an international level.

@Nida Alvi Curriculum overhaul is main PTI agenda and is highlighted by IK in every speech , promise and every meeting. if PMLN wanted they could have done it in there last 5 tenures , or at-least would have talked about it. so you think out of the blue NS thought this task is of any priority? no Mam, it is because of IK they are thinking of doing it now. Well KPK has already imlemented theses reforms. Islamic chapters have been added to chemistry books, science has been saved, rejoice PTIians or whatever you call yourselves.

It would've been better if some emphasis had been given to uniformity of syllabus in the curriculum of different schools all over the country
Please also make English an elective rather than a compulsory subject. This would be the greatest service to the poor lower-class students of this country, who give up education when they are unable to pass the English papers.
Will the new curriculum have a chapeter on how NS, the so called champion of democracy, benefitted from Zia's rule?
