Muharram: Former Kohat MNA, clerics among 17 restricted by K-P govt

Cellular services will also be temporarily shut down on Muharram 9 and 10 in the district

KOHAT: The Kohat district government on Wednesday restricted 17 people, including former MNA and Sunni Supreme Council chairman Javaid Ibrahim Paracha among other clerics, belonging to both Sunni and Shia sects, to their respective areas.

The directives were issued from the provincial government of K-P on Wednesday in order to avoid any hate speech related incidents during Muharram congregations and rallies.

Deputy Commissioner Kohat Riaz Mehsud told The Express Tribune that the decision was taken to ensure peace during the month of Muharram in the district.

Mehsud added that the movement of the persons and clerics is restricted because of the current law and order situation of the region.

Those restricted include Paracha along with Allam Qaiser Abbas, Allama Syed Anwar Ali Shah, Ashraf Zaidi, Fayas Haidari,. Haidar Wakeel,  Gul Azam Tariq, Mansoor Paracha, Maulana Ayaz, Allama Raza, Maulana Masood Paracha, Maulana Qaisar Abbas, Mazhar Ali Shah, Maulana Ismail, Abid Paracha, Obaidullah Haidairi, and Syed Awan Ali Shah.

DC Mehsud added that cellular services will also be temporarily shut down on Muharram 9 and 10.

Around 2,500 police personnel will be deployed in the sensitive areas of the Kohat districts during Muharram.
