FAISALABAD:

Police claim to have killed four robbers near Chiniot in an encounter late on Monday night.

According to Lalian police, the suspected gunmen shot at police and were killed when police returned fire near Chak Bahadur. Lalian SHO Rana Umar Daraz told The Express Tribune on Tuesday that he was leading a police party on a routine patrol, when they received a report about a robbery incident. “We received a wireless call that robbers had snatched a motorcycle, mobile phones and Rs4,000 from Abid Ali and Saeedul Hassan, residents of Lalian, near Haveli Mor and had escaped towards Chak Bahadur. We reached the area and saw four suspects riding on two bikes. When we signalled them to stop, they started firing in our direction and fled towards the heavily wooded area near Chak Bahadur. We exchanged gunfire with them for half an hour near the edge of the forest. When the firing ceased, all four had died,” the SHO said. He said the bodies had been taken to Chiniot district headquarters (DHQ) hospital for post mortem examination.

“Three of the deceased were identified as: Abu Bakar, a resident of Hamboana village, Chiniot; Asif, a resident of Kot Miana Sargodha; and Mazhar Nawaz, a resident of Ghughan, Sargodha,” the SHO said.
