Academic visit: Kiwi delegation visits arid varsity

The two sides also agreed to work jointly at the students, faculty and institutional level and collaborate in research

A delegation from New Zealand’s Massey University visited Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) on Tuesday with an aim to identify and establish long term collaboration between the two varsities.


The delegation comprising Dr Richard Archer and Michael O’Shaughnessy met PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor Dr Rai Niaz Ahmad and discussed the possibilities of collaboration in academics, research and training.

Ahmad briefed the delegation about the varsity’s educational, research and extension programmes, future plans, and role in the development of agriculture sector in Pakistan. He said that the university was engaged with the farmers to develop better agriculture skills.



The VC said the varsity was working with different research and development organisations in the fields of agriculture, livestock, range management, animal breeding and genetics, wildlife and fisheries to find solutions to problems facing the farmers.

The visiting delegation exchanged views with faculty members and visited an ostrich farm and model of a roof rainwater harvesting system at the campus.

The two sides also agreed to work jointly at the students, faculty and institutional level and collaborate in research and technological initiatives.
