Syed Hashim was one of the alleged suspects involved in kidnapping and murdering Pearl, and was arrested in 2008.
Newly-posted presiding officer of ATC Abdul Ghafoor Memon buried the case citing lack of evidence.
Pearl, the South Asia bureau chief at the Wall Street Journal, was abducted and killed in Karachi on January 23, 2002.
A special anti-terrorism court had awarded death sentence to the mastermind, Ahmed Omer Sheikh, while the co-accused, Salman Saqib, Fahad Naseem and Shaikh Adil, were handed life imprisonment in 2002, after they were found guilty of kidnapping and beheading the foreign journalist.

Nothing to worry. The Israelis will not let him go and will eventually get him (directly or through their agents in Pakistan).
This simply proves that those entrusted with dispensing justice are unfit for the job because they chose the easy way out........by not providing justice.
@Gp65 and other indians: go do your research.. the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton denied the US government had paid any blood money. Family members of the victims disappeared during investigation and are still missing.
Why does it take almost a decade to determine there is insufficient evidence? Why 12 years after sentence is the mastermind behind this atrocious beheading still sitting in prison rather than being executed as ordered by the court? Just more evidence that Pakistan has a long way to go before it's Justice system will be trusted by the international community
@goldconsumer: True but while Modi was acquitted, 33 Hindus included a then sitting minister were convicted for inciting Gujarat riots and of course many Muslims also because Hindus and Muslims killed each other. Bal Thackeray was convicted of hate speech as a result of which he lost the right not onky of contesting he election but even the right to vote for 6 years. 3 of our chief ministers including a sitting CM have been convicted of corruption and will be unable to ever contest an election. Indira Gandhi lost a case in Allahabad High Court in 1975 when she was the PM. In Ondia, high and mighty do get convicted, thus Modi's acquittal shows lack of complicity in riots. Pakistan has never convicted a single terrorist and hence this acquittal does not show anything other than the fact that Pakistan does ot conict its terrorists.
@Kamran: Raymond Davis was freed per your own Islamic justice system by paying Deeyat. He was not acquitted.
@Kamran: Wasn't Raymond Davis released based on Islamic system of Diyya. So are you complaining about the fairness of Islamic law?
Sad indeed that murderers and killers go scot free.
Poor guy spent 6 years in jail with no evidence... Raymond Davis killed Pakistanis in broad daylight and was given a kiss you goodbye from our government in a few days.
6 years they kept him before freeing him. Will he be compensated for that?
I don't understand what sort of justice system allows you to keep a person incarcerated for 6 years without trial and with no evidence against him.
@Timorlane: Evidence matters. In one country alledged mass murderer is now the PM!
Judiciary, human right organzations everybody seems to be there to save terrorists, killers and rapists
