The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) will hold protest demonstrations on Wednesday (today) in front of press clubs in various cities against the recent hike in electricity prices.
The announcement was made by PTI Punjab president Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhry during a press conference.
“The government has failed to understand the people’s problems. They have disfigured democracy,” he said.
Chaudhry said the price hike had forced people to take to the streets.
“The promise of holding local government elections must be fulfilled. The PTI has been fighting a legal battle in this regard,” he said.
Earlier, he chaired a meeting of the party’s Punjab local government committee.
Dr Yasmin Rashid, the PTI Punjab’s general secretary, said that the government had given in to international pressure. “The electricity prices have been increased on the demands of the International Monetary Fund,” she said.
