A worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was shot dead on Wednesday night in what appears to be an act of target killing.
Syed Hassan Mujtaba Zaidi alias Kaka, 44, was riding his motorcycle with three children when he was attacked near DC House. The fatal gunshots instantly killed Zaidi while his two children and a nephew suffered minor bruises when they fell off the motorcycle.
According to Cantt police SHO Shams Khokhar, the deceased sustained two gunshots to his temporal region and cheek. The attackers, who have yet to be identified, escaped.
The body was taken to Civil hospital for autopsy but the family refused the post-mortem. Meanwhile, enraged workers of the MQM along with MNA Waseem Hussain, MPA Zubair Ahmed Khan and others reached the hospital.

Parts of Hyderabad’s City tehsil remained shut on Thursday to mourn Zaidi’s death. Zaidi was an employee of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Hyderabad. The SHO said that they recovered two bullet shells of a 9mm pistol from the site. The incident’s FIR has yet to be registered.
The police are also investigating whether or not Zaidi was targeted due to his sect as he was also an activist of Anjuman-i-Haideri, a Shia organisation that holds the main Muharram 10 procession. According to Anjuman-e-Haideri’s Raza Irani, Zaidi headed the volunteers group.
