SANGARH:

A marathon race, ‘Race for Survival’, will take place today on the occasion of UN’s International Poverty Day. The event has been organised by ‘Save the Children’, an NGO working in nearly 60 countries to fight for the rights of children.

The race will be attended by more than 1,600 children across three cities simultaneously: Sangarh, Lahore and Islamabad. Provincial Manager Advocacy and Campaign Sindh Iqbal Detho said that the purpose of the race was to spread awareness among the public regarding the issue of infant mortality due to preventable causes.

He added that a three-day orientation was also given to the children about the various causes of infant mortality. The NGO has hired a professional trainer to help the students prepare for the race under the motto ‘for the children, by the children’.

The race will conclude with a cultural show and prize distribution ceremony.
