Pakistan needs to incite those fighting in Kashmir: Musharraf

Former president General Pervez Musharraf on Thursday said Pakistan needs to incite those fighting in Kashmir, India Today reported.

“We have source (in Kashmir) besides the (Pakistan) army…People in Kashmir are fighting against (India). We just need to incite them,” Musharraf told a TV channel.

Musharraf, who assumed power in 1999 soon after the Kargil conflict as hostilities erupted between Indian and Pakistani troops in the area, claimed that the Pakistan army is ready for war with India. But He cautioned India against any misadventure.

“India should not be under the illusion that Pakistan will not hit back,” he warned.

“In Kashmir, we can fight with the (Indian) army from both the front and back…We are Muslims. We will not show the other cheek when we are slapped. We can respond tit for tat,” he said, while commenting on the recent firing along the Line of Control and working boundary.

At least 12 people have been killed since India resorted to ‘unprovoked’ firing on the border. The Pakistan Army has repeatedly affirmed that they have replied “befittingly” to the heavy firing and mortar shelling. However, the government has called for the matter to be resolved through dialogue between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

Ceasefire violations on the Line of Control (LoC) and working boundary between India and Pakistan although common have been unusual in their intensity and frequency this time.

The former army chief explained that external aggression happens only when the country remains weak internally.

“If we remain strong internally, no one can dare to target us,” he asserted.

Musharraf also lashed out at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, he did not only reserve his criticism for the Hindu-nationalist leader, censuring Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for attending Modi’s swearing-in ceremony in New Delhi in May this year.

“Modi is anti-Muslim and anti-Pakistan. He has not changed. The problem is with us… We are running to attend his (Modi) inauguration, we should keep our dignity.”

    I watched that TV interview and Musharraf made no such comments as to inciting Kashmiris. He is a bold leader, unlike Nawaz Sharif and believes in dealing with the Indian government on equal level. His comments in the interview were right on.

    I admire President Musharraf as a great leader but I don’t agree with his advice. We shuold keep supporting the kashmir cause which remains the disputed territory and support thier cause but not icite them.I actually think that President Musharraf may have been misrepoerted.I think Kuldip’s Nayarr’s recent propsal to give both side of Kashmir full autonomy. With only two issues defence and forign policies with New Delhi and Islamabad is a good proposal if it also includes the right of Kashmiris to move freely within Kashmir without hindrance.

    The Indian channel is misreporting his comments and sensationalizing for the Indian audience. Yes, he did warn the Indians against the current bombing they are conducting and killing Pakistani civilians and stated categorically that Pak Army is fully capable of responding, and he did state we should support our Kashmiri brothers, but he did not say anything about inciting them.

    @Pak Patriot:
    Here is the link to the video of Musharraf’s interview with Jasmeen Manzoor (tonight with Jasmeen – Oct. 14, 2014).
    http://www.awaztoday.tv/News-Talk-Shows/68309/Pervez-Musharraf-in-Tonight-With-Jasmeen-14th-October-2014.aspx

    In this interview (Watch between 6.00 minutes and 7:00 minutes of this video), he ways that Pakistan can face indian army from front and behind. He says that Pakistan has not only its army but other sources (Inside India) also. He goes on to say that there are insurgents in India and it is delay in inciting them and also says that there are many in Pakistan who are ready to go to India and fight along with their brothers in India and if Pakistan is forced it would do so.

    What Musharraf has said is that muslims of India will never be loyal to India but will be loyal to Pakistan only. This is the view that many in Pakistan, particularly its army and religious parties has held and have been propagating for many decades. Today we see Sri Lanka refusing asylum to Shias who are fleeing Pakistan and UK refusing asylum to Hazaras who are fleeing Pakistan. Canada is doing the same. Shias and Hazaras may be persecuted in Pakistan but the world community does not trust them as much because they are muslims from Pakistan and their loyalty, irrespective of their persecution in Pakistan, has come under increasing suspicion. Indian muslims (excepting a small section) are loyal to India and would not want to become suspected of their loyalty in other countries to where they migrate. Recommend

    this is one common man speaking to another common man across the border…
    Guys, please beware of this guy. his misadventure in Kargil resulted into loss of many lives on both the side. We may call those dead soldiers warrior, martyr and whatmany names, but the truth is that they are gone, there family will never get to see them ever again, there wishes died away with them. And for what? what was the outcome? we all might take some feathers home thinking that we fought valiantly..But just get out of your jingoism and think what did Pakistan achieve out of it? was all those loss of lives worth it? the generals and politicians they have been trained and thrive on making inflammatory speeches, it is the only way they justify their existence, but to see through those facade and maintain your rationality is your job.
    look around and you will see the real problem, corruption, illiteracy, unemployment, sinking economy and instead of inciting masses to tackle these issues, he wants to incite Kashmiris so that this circle of violence continues. everything i wrote here is equally applicable to my country as well. I am an informed and a rational person, I will not fall for such harangue if my leaders were to spew it out in front of me.

    Immediately send this paper tiger to the border with India and ask him to infiltrate into India and join his comrades already in the “back” of India to fight the Indian army. So, he is admitting that Pakistan has its agents at India’s “back” who will be used to stab India in the back.

    As for his ‘we are Muslims” remark, Muslims have globally lost every war they waged in the last couple of centuries. Besides, there are more Muslims in India than Pakistan.Recommend

    Nobody in the world believes in Pakistani rants. The world saw when Pakistan said that there were no army men in Kargil, but only mujahiddins. Scores of Pakistani soldiers were killed in Indian bombing to retake Kargil. Pakistan even refused to accept the dead bodies of the poor soldiers just to show that they were not Pakistani army personnel. India gave those soldiers complete islamic burial and had a exhibition of all the army personnels photo ids, family pictures, letters and other evidences at New Delhi.

    The world also saw how Osama was found in Pakistan very close to the army locations. First Pakistan should learn to speak the truth, gain credibility in the world then speak against India. Recommend

    Pakistan would be ill-advised to create more trouble in Kashmir or LoC as it will invite massive retaliation from India. Musharraf is well aware of India’s response on his Kargil misadventure as well as the attack on Parliament which almost came close to an all out war between the two countries. Modi has already warned Pakistan that India will show zero tolerance to terrorism from across the border which is evident from the strong response recently by India. However, continuing the same old policy or any fresh adventurism as advocated by the former dictator may prove disastrous for Pakistan as Modi will not miss this golden opportunity to solve the six decades old problem by might of the Indian army.

    Musharraf, or anyone from the army thinktank, is not particularly known for his intelligence. The Indian establishment has brilliant minds like NSA Ajit Doval who are redefining India’s security strategy. Rest assured every “asset” that Musharraf has spoken about has been factored in in India’s strategy. We are aware of the Pakistan-Chinese nexus, which is actually what Musharraf meant when he said we can hurt India from two sides. The Indian response is to make it practically nonviable for China to engage India beyond a point, especially when Japan and the US come into the picture. India will be prepared to pay this cost, China will hurt as well.
    As for the action in Pakistan, it’ll be a combination of swift, short strikes, pressure from Iranian (west) and Afghanistan (north) fronts and a sustained 4th generation war (internal crisis) in troubled areas such as Balochistan, areas of Sindh and Northern areas.
    Essentially, the conflict will be quick and result in reconfigured territories in Kashmir, and Pakistan will end up losing Balochistan. As far as the nuclear option goes, there is zero possibility of it simply because India holds the same threat for China. If nuclear bomb was an option, North Korea would be threatening to nuke China. Practical realities are different.

This after he decided to cut off secretary levels talks with Pakistan just because the Pak diplomat spoke to Kashmiri leaders (as is normal for years). Not that we are surprised, this is exactly what we expected from Modi’s anti-Pakistan and anti-muslim history and rhetoric. I have spoken to many Indian muslims and they hate him too. Modi will turn out to be the biggest enemy of peace in the region. As for Musharraf, his trials are politically motivated and nothing will come of them. In fact, pro-Musharraf forces are gaining strength in Pakistan, and anti-Musharraf, pro-India Nawaz Sharif will be out soon. Musharraf’s comments of sources in Kashmir are not isolated, but a response to India’s meddling in Pakistan internal affairs as every one knows the support for taliban and Balochistan insurgents comes from India. So tit for tat it is, as he says, but only because of India’s actions. Lastly, if India is so confident of Kashmiris support of them then why are they so affraid of holding a referendum and putting this issue to bed once and for all? I know why, because they know the outcome will not be in their favor. They have seen plenty of examples of Kashmiri students chanting Pakistan Zindabad.

    This type of comments by an ex-president brings Pakistan a bad name. Pakistan is viewed as a trouble maker vs India as a problem solver.

    @Muneer: A person who is hiding from law in no position to dictate terms. Musharraf is a lost cause. Merely a attention grabbing technique. Nothing else in my mind.

    @Raj – USA:
    ” “(excepting a small section)” , are you referring to the Kashmiris whom I think want their own country instead of being persecuted by Indian security services which has killed more 100,000 and raped their women folks for the last 12 years. I would advocate that Pakistan should also vacate part of Kashmir they occupy and let the Kashmiiris have their own country and that is what they want anyway. After all Kashmir Is recognized as a disputed territory internationally and UN recognizes it the same way. By the way I think Mr. Musharraff is full of hot air and he should not be giving wild statements. However Modi does have thousand or so Muslim’s blood on his hands and it was the same Modi who was banned from entering the US for a long time till he got himself elected as PM. Talk about the Indians how much respect they had for the lives of those Muslims in Gujrat, some of them were even burnt alive. No denying about that one, it is a black spot on Indians who are mostly non- violent and respect human dignity.

    Kashmir has been OURS for over 5000 years. We are not going to forego it because you happen to change your religion. We will fight to the last man to keep what is ours and that includes PoK.

    Gen. Musharraf needs to remind himself of operation Gibraltor of 1965. Since then, both countries have moved in different directions.

    @Naeem Khan: Nameen, please stop lamanting about Muslims in India. India was carved to make a homeland for muslims. They need to go their homeland (if they want to). You should make efforts to take them and that will stop all the problems with you and us. Why isnt Pakistan taking all the Muslims of India if you do care so much for them? And why arent they leaving if they are not happy here?

    I love how Pakistani Muslims care so much about Indian Muslims. Shame you don’t have that level of concern for the Muslims within your borders. Oh sorry I fogot Shias and Ahmadis don’t count as Muslims do they? Laughable that you can’t provide safety and stability inside your own borders yet you speaks of starting yet another war to liberate the Muslims of India.Recommend
