The incident took place in Attock district, around 64 kilometres north of Islamabad on Wednesday, a spokesman for the community said.
"Latif Aalam Butt, a well-known Ahmadi was killed outside his house in Kamra, district Attock. He was returning home from his stationery store, when unknown assailants repeatedly fired at him," Saleem ud Din said.
Local police also confirmed the incident, adding that Butt was 62. It was not immediately clear what role he had served in the air force.
"The victim's son filed an application here at the police station today," local police official Qasim Ali told AFP.
"According to his son's account, the victim owned a stationery shop in Saddar market and was returning home from his shop during the incident."
Butt's neighbour reported the incident and he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the local hospital, Ali quoted the son as saying.
Agitation against the group began as early as the 1950s, eventually culminating in a constitutional amendment in 1974 that ruled the group non-Muslims -- making Pakistan the only state to adopt such a policy.
Gunmen shot dead an Ahmadi doctor in the southern city of Mirpur Khas last month. In July, an angry mob torched an Ahmadi neighbourhood in the city of Gujranwala, killing a woman and two girls after a local Ahmadi boy was accused of blasphemy.
The worst attack in recent times came in 2010 when an assault on Ahmadi mosques in Lahore killed nearly 100 people.

Yes,Qadiani's are the only ones who are targeted because of their religion. And Qadiani is the only one sect who is targeted by mulla's propaganda as mulla puts fatwa on the murder of a Qadiani and also the hate full banners against Qadiani in all over the country is a root of these incident and there is complete silence from the government and law and order society.
Ammendment in the 1974 constitution is the original sin. Until and unless it is undone, these atrosities and cruelity will definately be rampant. Instead of providing justice for every citizen the government is siding with the culprits by turning a deaf ear to these hostilities.
@AChaudhry: Eyes don't necessarily guarantee vision.Hatred often blinds people to reason.
@Muslim you talk about personal enmity in a community that preaches the passion and forgiveness Muhammad (saw) had for friends and enemies, a community that preaches "love for all hatred for none." If you look at the timeline of the maryters, you will see that doctors were targeted one after another. Is it such a huge coincidence that only doctors have personal enmity and they're being gunned down for that cause or is it only the people who preach peace have enmity and that's why they're gunned down. Pakistan is so against us that they can wrongly publish this as an act of enmity if they wish. But at least some just organizations have the sense to publish truth. And this goes for all other minorities who are targeted as well, do they all have personal enmities? You can't be blind while having functional eyes.
Another heart-wrenching case of innocent murder. May Allah give his family the strength to bear the loss. (Ameen)
@Muslim: I agreed with your stance..........the behavior of Newspaper is very unprofessional why they are highlighting the religion? he may have some personal issues.........
Very Sad. A son of the soil, and official of PAF, what a waste.
I want my Pakistani Ahmedi brothers/compatriots to know we are with you.
ALL citizens of Pakistan should have equal rights and freedom of religion.
@Iqbal Hadi Zaidi: Imran also never speaks p for the rights of Ahmadis. Did police in KPK act when a Sikh was killed?
Until and unless people should speak up for the rights of the weak in Pakistan, neither politicians nor any democratic or undemocratic set up will change to provide security in Pakistan.
Regardless of what your beliefs are Pakistan is for everyone and the guiding principle laid by the founder of Pakistan - Qaid - E- Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah that Pakistan will not be a theocratic state, is what we need to push for.
There are 73 sects in Islam and all believe the others to be non-Muslims, this is Pandora's box that has been opened in 1974 and now is the high time that we should close this box once and for all!
Really sad news.. In Pakistan Govt didn't take any kind of action.
GO NAWAZ GO must be shouted aloud all over the country since each day innocent people are killed all over the country hence why GO NAWAZ GO must not be shouted. Iqbal Hadi Zaidi
Extremely sad and hopeless situation
Result of all the hatred and fanaticism seeded by our religious leaders and the establishment during last 50 years – a sad and tragic history of our endless social demoralization…. May his soul rest in peace.
I am saddened by the killing of Mr Latif Alam Butt, a relative of mine. He was a peaceful and progressive person who taught his children good education. The relentless anti-Ahmadiyya propaganda by Khatam-e-Nabuwat organisation and their religious edicts of killing the Ahmadis, have contributed to such senseless opportunistic attacks. The country is undergoing variety of murderous campaigns by religious extremists and such murders are soon forgotten. Unfortunately government has consistently failed to prosecute such people who perpetrate such heinous crimes. During an attack on Ahmadiyya places of worship in May 2010, the Ahmadis through their disciplined defence were able to capture two militant suicidal terrorists however, we have yet to learn what has happened with those captured terrorists. Were they prosecuted, hanged or set free? Our thoughts and prayers go for Mr Latif Butt's family and all the victims of current murderous rampage by Khatam-e-Nabuwat, Sipah-e-Sahaba and Taliban. May Allah protect Pakistan from such groups once and for all. Ameen.
And these murderers of humanity think they will go to paradise after they die.If there is God,how can he allow that.
