District police announced on Wednesday it had arrested 253 proclaimed offenders during a crackdown.
Talking to reporters, District Police Officer (DPO) Ghulam Mubashar Maikan said that police had been directed to take action against people with illegal weapons and drug peddlers.
“During September, police seized 13 AK-47 rifles, seven shotguns, two rifles, 54 pistols, three revolvers, one hand-grenade and ammunition from 85 people.
Cases have been registered against the suspects,” the DPO said.
He said that 32 drug-peddlers had also been arrested during the crackdown. “Police seized 2.5 kilogrammes of drugs and 95 liters of alcohol from them,” he said.
The DPO said that mangers of all the banks in the district had been directed to install CCTV cameras and to beef up security.
