Discrimination: Court extends stay on large houses

Government withdraws tax last year after citizens challenged it before the court

LAHORE: Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday extended the stay order on luxury tax imposed on houses covering two kanals or more. The court issued directions to the government to submit a reply at the next hearing on November 10. The petitioners said the government had once again imposed an illegal tax as it had tried to last year. The government withdrew the tax last year after citizens challenged it before the court.
