Promoting talent: Journalism students display ad projects

60 master’s students display 3D charts, posters

LAHORE:

Sixty students at the Punjab University’s Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) displayed their advertising projects at the institute on Monday.

The MSc Development Journalism students had worked on various ideas and displayed them in the form of 3D charts and posters to show how an effective advertising campaign attracted customers.

“These projects helped us understand how catchy slogans are used to focus the audience’s attention towards a product. From the conception of ideas to their execution and slogans, we designed everything ourselves,” said Sabahiya Nazir, a student.

“It was difficult at the start. Now, we feel it has really helped us a lot. We practiced what we had studied. We are happy to have completed these projects,” said Mian Sulaiman Iqbal, another student.

Most of the students had worked on beverages and fast food products. “I worked on a campaign for fruit juices and focused on how they could boost health and energy,” said Iqra Butt, another student.

“We have learnt how ideas can be pitched and displayed. I think students should undergo such training at all universities. Professionals should also be invited so that a strong link is established between the university and the industry. Students can know what areas they need to work on and the industry can get fresh talent from the universities,” said Jawad Abbasi, the class representative, who was one of the organisers.

“This exhibition has provided us with an opportunity to practice what we learned in the class rooms. This was an activity which helped us acquire professional skills. We enjoyed the work,” said Syed Sajjad Ali, another student.

ICS Director Nosheena Saleem, assistant professors Shabbir Sarwar, Fahad Mahmood, Seemab Far Bokhari and Lecturer Shaista Khawar viewed the exhibition.
