The stampede was triggered by thousands of PTI workers scrambling to exit gates of Ibne Qasim Bagh Stadium as power supply was disrupted.
“A third umpire is always needed whether to probe election rigging or incidents like this one,” Imran said, stressing the need for a fair inquiry into the incident.
While talking to media representatives before leaving Islamabad for Multan, Imran said PTI was also conducting an intra-party investigation and no stone will be left unturned.
Holding the government responsible for the incident, Imran said, “If you [government] lock the gates from outside and the electricity goes as well, then such an incident is unavoidable.”
The Punjab government had formed a three-member committee to probe the tragedy, however, PTI had rejected it.
Earlier, PTI leader traded blame with district government Multan with Imran and vice chairperson Shah Mehmood Qureshi holding the deputy commissioner of Multan responsible for the mishap.

Very sad moment indeed - nothing in the world can ever compensate for the precious lives lost! indeed a poor show by the organizers - and this is really not the first time; it seems that the PTI Team did not learn from their previous mistakes and perhaps waiting for such a tragic moment to re organize themselves - i find no words to condemn the poor organization and the team of PTI; EXTREMELY SAD!
For a fair internal PTI investigation, Imran khan should step down to ensure transparency.
@Ch. Allah Daad: Very well said!!! Agree 100%!
IK Sb, You and your bro tried really hard hard; I remember how ecstatic you were when you got the much-awaited call to meet with COAS -- I'm sure you thought that was it!!!, but obviously, it did not pan out the way you had expected. You are now trying to MASK the failure of your dharna by extending it into these purpose-less Jalsas, wasting your and nation's money and losing precious lives -- all for what? Just to feed your injured ego??? Hate to say this but your detour towards Jalsas is NOT going to make people forget the FAILURE of your and TUQ's so-called "London Plan." It is now crystal clear to a naked eye that NS is NOT going anywhere, so please help yourself, pack this dog n pony show, and go home! Better luck next time!
@Ch. Allah Daad: Thumbs UP
Imran is not sad or worried about his supporters who lost their lives, otherwise he had already formed a committee to collect donations for bereaved families. His only regret is that why it didn't happen in Islamabad.
Why he went to Multan when the demonstration is already going on in Islamabad . It means he is now loosing public support day by day , He is now a curse on Pakistan.
The whole Pakistani government and establishment should immediately stop all other work and report to Imran Khan. Everyone should take down every word that comes out of his mouth and investigate, inquire, file charges, sentence and punish all those the great leader points his finger at. All new edicts, orders that come out of his mouth are to be immediately complied with.
Terrorism, IDPs, economy, trade, diplomacy, development, law & order, floods, earthquakes are NOT important. Just follow, the great leaders daily utterances.
IK and SMQ statements are itself FIR against them
Not a word on Malala winning the Nobel peace price! The Taliban will be happy!
Cuckoo IK should resign now !
People have seen through IK , his shallowness, his willingness to sell Pakistan short for his personal engradisment.
Glad to hear that pti decided to conduct an internal inquiry. My suggestion would be to publish that report publicly to prove that pti believes in justice and fair play.
What a sheer waste of emotional energy? Imran Khan should spend more time with his children. They need a father.

On a tit-for-tat basis, shouldn't PTI leadership resign first before the investigation is initiated or completed? After all, they had a similar demand for Punjab/Federal Govt officials after the model town incident. The cows have come back to roost now.
This khan n his partner Qadri has provided financial losses to this country to such extent which polititions did not have done by 60 years of corruption. Please leave us For God sake...!!
This just shows the weakness of the PTI thought process.......they still have not understood that the PML-N relishes on playing dirty even after the blatant killing of some 15 innocent persons in Model Town Lahore........and that the judiciary as good as nonexistent.
I am confused. I thought PTI/Imran dont believe in the judiciary's independence. Why trust a judicial commission now when we did not trust it to look into the elections??
