LAHORE: An additional district and sessions judge on Friday sought comments from Shahdara police on a petition filed by a man seeking registration of a case against a butcher for not slaughtering his sacrificial animal on Eid. Muhammad Zaman told the court he had hired Malik Shafqat to slaughter a cow on the first day of sacrifice on Monday. He said after offering Eid prayers, he had called the butcher but he did not collect the call. He said he had waited for Shafqat until 5pm but he did not turn up. Zaman said no other butcher had agreed to slaughter the cow on the first day of the festivity. Finally, he said, a butcher slaughtered the animal on the next day. He said he had invited some guests to a barbecue on Monday. He said his plan was frustrated as he could not sacrifice the cow on time. Zaman said the Shahdara station house office (SHO) was not registering a case against Shafqat. He requested the court to order the SHO to register a case.
