KARACHI:

The Sindh government plans to upgrade and enhance the capacity of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and the National Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases (NICVD) to improve the standard of health facilities available to the people of the province but this will only be implemented once the courts resolve litigation about the ownership of these institutions, said Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Friday.

Presiding over a meeting at CM House to develop the working conditions and health facilities of JPMC and NICVD, Shah said that the institutions were devolved to the Sindh government in 2010 but this was challenged by administrative officers in the courts in 2011 and the matter had been pending since then. He directed Sindh Advocate-General Fatah Malik to speed up the proceedings of the litigation and to obtain the decision as soon as possible so that the provincial government can improve the services delivered by JPMC and NICVD.

The meeting was also attended by the provincial higher education commission chairperson Dr Asim Hussain and others.
