Violence round-up: Two religious party activists among 11 killed during Eid days

Four people were killed on the first day of Eid while six others were killed on the second day.

KARACHI: Two religious party workers were among 11 people who lost their lives in separate targeted attacks and violence in different parts of the metropolis during the Eidul Azha holidays.

The Pirabad police reported that 45-year-old Afsar Khan, son of Sharif Khan, was shot dead on the first day of Eid in Islamia Colony, Orangi Town. The deceased was travelling on his motorcycle when unidentified men shot and killed him for unknown reasons.



Similarly, the owner of Jahangir Communications mobile shop was killed when unidentified men riding a motorcycle targeted him. The incident took place at the shop in Waziristan Chowk in Gulshan-e-Bunir. Quaidabad police reported that the deceased was identified as 38-year-old Jahangir, son of Khalilur Rehman.

In a separate incident on the eve of Eid, a 24-year-old man identified as Shahzad, son of Akram, was shot dead in Ancholi Society. Samanabad police said that the deceased owned a biryani shop in the area. He was sitting at his shop when at least two unidentified men riding a motorcycle targeted him and escaped for unknown reasons. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy and later handed over to the family for burial.

Separately, the body of a young abducted man was found near Cantt Bazaar, Shah Faisal Colony, on the first day of Eid. The deceased was later identified as 20-year-old Ali Naqi, son of Zulfiqar Shah. Police officials said that the deceased had gone for a haircut when unidentified men kidnapped him. They allegedly dumped the body after shooting him multiple times allegedly due to a personal enmity, said the police.

The second day of Eid saw the death of a religious party activist identified as 30-year-old Masood Khan, son of Musafir Khan. The Hyderi police reported that Khan was targeted at Kauser Niazi Colony, North Nazimabad. The deceased was affiliated with the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) and was also the brother of the general secretary of the party's North Nazimabad chapter. Later, the party also staged a protest.

In Pirabad police limits, Maulana Sajidullah, 35, son of Sabitullah, was killed while his companion, Rehmat Wilayat, was injured on the second day of Eid. Unidentified men riding a motorcycle opened fire at a cab near Paracha graveyard. SHO Nasir Mehmood said the deceased was affiliated with the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam - Fazl, and lived in Patel Para. He was on his way to his house after visiting his mother in Qasba Colony when the assailants killed him.

Allah Bachayo, 24, was killed and his companion, Shahzad, 27, was wounded when unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire at them near their houses in Shah Abdul Latif Goth. Sacchal police attributed the incident to personal enmity.

Unidentified men shot and killed a scrap dealer in Surjani Town. Wajid alias Bhola, 25, son of Sajjad Ahmed, was standing near his house in Yousuf Goth when he was targeted. Police officials claim to have arrested an accused, namely Noman, and said that the accused killed his friend over a dispute.

In a separate incident, 30-year-old Akram, son of Firdous, was killed and Wajid, 28, was wounded at Agra Taj Colony, Lyari. Police officials said that the incident took place during a clash between members of two rival communities.

Meanwhile, four-month-old Ayesha, daughter of Ahsan, was killed while her mother Shahla was wounded during a robbery bid near Essa Nagri late on Sunday night. PIB Colony police said that the victims were on their way to their house in Banaras when some men intercepted their rickshaw. They opened fire when the mother resisted, killing the infant and injuring the mother, said SHO Maqsood Raza.

On the third day of Eid, an unidentified man was shot dead in Gharib Shah, Lyari. The body was taken to Civil hospital.
