Kohala hyrdo power project : TI ask PM to take notice of contract
It has requested the prime minister to take immediate action and ‘terminate the illegally awarded contract
Transparency International (TI) Pakistan has asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take notice of the allegedly illegal award of US 2.4billion contract of Kohala Hyrdo Power Project to blacklisted company M/s CWE. In a letter addressed to secretary to prime minister, the whistleblower said the contract could not awarded on Built-Operate and Transfer (BOT) model. “[As such contract} awarded by Wapda, National Transmission and Dispatch Company and AJK government on the basis of a memorandum for understanding without public tendering was in violation of PPRA Ordinance 2002 and Public Procurement Rules 2004,” the letter said. The TI has requested the prime minister to take immediate action and ‘terminate the illegally awarded contract. It has also recommended to process the project as Wapda’s own project, ‘which will result in 60% to 65% of the tariff”.
