MADYAN: Security forces launched a search on Friday after imposing a curfew in Madyan. The operation was prompted by the discovery of a decapitated body of a police official from his house on Thursday.

Security forces used sniffer dogs in an attempt to trace the culprits. Officials refused to comment on the progress made during the operation. However, locals said a few suspects have been taken into custody.

According to Madyan DSP Saleem Jadoon, the body of Muhibullah, a special force policeman was found at his house. He had been missing for six days.

Over the past few months, a large number of village defence committee members and peace activists have been killed. Data released by the Swat police office suggests 123 police personnel have been killed by unidentified assailants since 2009.

Security for Eid

A security plan has been devised for Eidul Azha whereby 12,000 police officials will be deployed across six districts of Malakand Division.

According to a statement issued by the office of Malakand DIG Abdullah Khan, all district police officials in Buner, Shangla, Lower Dir, Upper Dir and Chitral will be on duty during the holidays. An additional police force has been arranged to provide security at hotels, guest houses and shopping centres in Malam Jabba, Pir Baba, Miandam, Kalam, Buner, Garam Chashma and Boni.

Police trained to handle metal detectors will be assigned the task of protecting Eid congregations. Plain clothes police will be deployed at public places and additional officials will be stationed at check posts. The handout stated supplementary traffic police have also been deputed to ensure a smooth traffic flow during the Eid holidays.

All DPOs and SHOs have been advised to regularly patrol the areas and be prepared for all eventualities. DPOs and SHOs have been requested to ask the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and not conduct aerial firing.
