KARACHI: The Pakistan Scrabble Association (PSA) has collaborated with the US Education Foundation (USEF) to hold the Horlicks 26th Scrabble Championship at the Expo Centre on October 12.

The championship will also coincide with PSA’s silver jubilee, and is therefore expected to be much better and more significant one than its previous editions.

According to PSA Director Youth Program Tariq Pervez, the championship is open to everyone, and the co-operation with the USEF will encourage the players to improve on their performances.

He also added that earlier, finding sponsors for local events had been a struggle, but now the sport was attracting the corporate sector as well.

“We are hoping to improve on last year’s championship,” Pervez told The Express Tribune after holding a press conference at the Karachi Press club yesterday.

“Partnering with the USEF will benefit the players and the foundation will be eyeing the upcoming talent.

“Hopefully this can bring about more opportunities for our youngsters and they may even get scholarships because of their interest in the mind game. Thus, we are hoping for a big turnout.”

Registration for the event will end on October 11 at the Beach Luxury Hotel.
