New start: Shamsul Qayyum appointed BoK chief

He served the bank as country manager for Afghanistan till 2010.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government appointed Shamsul Qayyum, a seasoned banker, as the managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) of Bank of Khyber (BoK) on Thursday.


“We hope Qayyum will take the organisation to new heights as managing director, said Syed Ali Nawaz Gilani, the BoK head of marketing.

He added the appointment of such a senior banker shows the provincial government is committed to promoting the banking sector and promoting economic development.

Formerly the senior regional chief for Habib Bank Limited (HBL) in K-P, Qayyum had started his banking career with the organisation in 1974. He was posted to various areas of the province as chief manager.

From 1998 to 2005, he was posted in United Arab Emirates (UAE). After this seven-year spell, he served the bank as country manager for Afghanistan till 2010.
