Consumer court: Notice issued over faulty phone claim

Petitioner requests court to direct owner to replace phone

A consumer court on Thursday issued a notice to a proprietor regarding a petition seeking Rs 10,0000 in damages.

Muhammad Shamshair, the petitioner, said he had purchased a secondhand mobile phone from Muhammad Akram, the owner of Hussain Mobile on Ravi Road. He said he had purchased the phone for Rs5,000 on the understanding that Akram would be responsible for any fault in the device. Shamshair said the phone had started dysfunctioning a few days later. He said Akram had advised him to visit his shop after he told him about the matter. Shamshair said he had repaired the phone in vain as the problem had persisted. He said Akram had been avoiding him after he told him about the matter.  Shamshair requested the court to direct him to replace the phone and pay damages.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Akram rejected the allegations. He said that he had repaired the phone after Shamshair complained about it. Akram said that he had expressed satisfaction with it at that time. He said that he had told Shamshair that he could return to his shop if the problem persisted. Akram said he had not received any complaint from him after.
