Swallows poison after an argument with family

FAISALABAD: Police said on Thursday that a man had committed suicide in Batala Colony area. They said Uzair Amjad*, a resident of Warispura, had asked his parents to buy him new clothes for Eid. Police said he had swallowed poison after his parents turned down his request. They said he was taken to district headquarters (DHQ) hospital where he had died. Mohsin Riaz, a cousin of the deceased, said he had hailed from a disadvantaged family. He said he had asked his parents to buy him new clothes for Eid. Riaz said they were unable to fulfill his desire due to poverty.

He said he had become depressed over the matter and had swallowed poison after an argument with his family. Riaz said after he fainted he was shifted a hospital where he died. Separately, police said 10 people attempted suicide in the city.
