Blast at Hangu IDPs camp kills six

Police says blast happened near camp set up for IDPs from Orakzai Agency

HANGU:
Six people were killed and eight injured in a blast near Togh Sarai Camp for internally displaced persons (IDP) on Sunday, Express News reported.

"An improvised explosive device (IED) was planted in the camp," a police official said.

Further, the police official said the blast happened in Muhammad Khawaja Bazaar, near a relief camp set up for IDPs from Orakzai Agency.

Police and rescue teams have reached the site of the blast and have cordoned off the area. The injured are being shifted to a nearby hospital.

Internally displaced persons (IDPs) from North Waziristan Agency have been seeking shelter in various cities in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa since the military launched an offensive against militants in the region.

On June 11, militants fired rockets and hurled grenades at the Tigh Sarai camp following up on earlier threats asking IDPs to vacate.

This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
