QUETTA: A man was killed and 27 were injured, including a child and woman, after a remote-controlled bomb fitted to a motorbike went off on Chakar Road in Sibi on Saturday.

According to reports, the target of the bomb was supposed to be a Balochistan Levies vehicle.

“Unknown persons fitted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) to a bike and parked it near a grocery store. It was detonated through a remote control after the vehicle of Balochistan Levies arrived,” Mohammed Akram, SHO Sibi City Police, told The Express Tribune.

Three motorbikes were also damaged in the blast. However, the vehicle and personnel of Balochistan Levies remained unaffected after the attack.

Rescue workers and police rushed the spot soon after the blast and transported the dead and injured to Civil Hospital and Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

“A dead body and 23 injured—including a woman and a child were brought here. Eight injured were in critical condition shifted to CMH,” Ghulam Sarwar, MS Sibi Hospital, told The Express Tribune. The deceased was identified as Mohammed Umar Khosa who was in his late 30s and had come to Sibi city from his village for shopping.

Medics said that the injured received splinter wounds in the explosion.

“All the victims are from Sibi and some had come from remote villages,” police said.

According to police, around three to four kilograms of explosives were used in the blast. Police have started an investigation into the incident. There have been no claims of responsibility for the latest bombing.

At least two passenger trains have been bombed in Sibi previously, and banned United Baloch Army (UBA) claimed the responsibility for the bombings.  Many passengers were killed and dozens wounded in this year.
