A dozen ‘suspected terrorists’ who were rounded up in a raid in the capital on Friday were discovered to be no more than labourers. The men were picked up after a tip-off from Sector G-9. However, no suicide jackets or lethal weapons were recovered from their possession, police said.
Law enforcement officials had arrested 12 men from the I&T Center on suspicion of their affiliation with terrorist groups. A nearby mosque was also raided at the time. Investigations later revealed that the men were labourers and vagabonds, according to investigation officer Muhammad Ali of Ramna police station.
The official said nine of the men were from Mohmand Agency while three were from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). They are aged between 17 and 20 and were released on bail on Friday evening. “The men have been sleeping outside shops at the I&T center for some time and work near Peshawar Morr,” Ali said.
