A man died of cardiac arrest on Friday reportedly on seeing his electricity bill.
A Ghulam Muhammadabad police spokesman said Gulzar Ahmad, a resident of Mohallah Usman Ghani, received an electricity bill of Rs18,000 early on Friday morning.
He said the man had a heart attack and was taken to a hospital where he died.
Muhammad Akhtar, a relative, told newsmen that Ahmad was a cobbler and had lived in a rented house in Mohallah Usman Ghani.
“Ahmad did not have a steady source of income. He got very worried and had a heart attack when he saw the bill,” he said.
A spokesman for the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) said Ahmad had been billed according to the meter reading.
He said Ahmad had not paid his bill last month and the arrears had been charged in the new bill.
He said the FESCO chief had formed a committee to probe into the matter.
“If Ahmad’s electricity bill is incorrect or has been inflated, action would be taken against those responsible,” the spokesman added.

PM Nawaz should have condoled the death unless it is below his dignity to offer condolences for the one who is not equal to PM status. This is typical VIP culture. Iqbal Hadi Zaidi
@Yousuf: It is better to remain quiet and appear stupid, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
"No no. IK's call for civil disobedience in light of the burglary and theft that the govt is partaking in is totally immoral and everybody should act like good and well behaved citizens because your govt loves you and cares about you and wants the best for you." ~Haters If anyone had any doubt about burning their bills, that doubt should be clear now. The government is literally looting you and if you willingly give them your money, then you really deserve to be looted.
poor man.RIP
The Independent Power Producers have been given contract on inflated rates. For example, back somewhere between 1988 and 1990 during the first Benazir Government, Hubco was contracted to supply electricity for Rs. 5.00 per unit whereas at that time the domestic rate was 0.40 paisas per unit in Karachi. The kickbacks, reportedly, helped acquire the Surrey mansion. And, now when the Chinese want to help with cheap alternatives, their President was made to delay/cancel his visit to Pakistan. To top it, Pervez Khattak did not go to China as per invitation. All this smells of a plan to deprive Pakistan of cheap electric power. And, it is anyone's guess who is part of this.
RIP. The onus of the precious loss of life goes to the corrupts of Gullu League and Wadera Corruption Party who have messed up this country with their insatiable greed and corruption
@Ashfaq.... Go and live in South Korea then
@A. Khan: Your "heart" goes out to his family?
So what if people die due to inflated electricity bills? What has Imran Khan done in KPK huh?
In south korea, if you do not pay the bill on time, you will no be charged extra. you can pay your bill of three to four months collectively.
What action??? You people are full of hot air.
Poor chap. My heart goes out to his family. He must have been an honest man and paid all his bills and wasn't expecting such a major outlay on his meagre resources.
