Panjgur district: Human remains found in gunny bags

Police says there could be either three or four bodies in the two gunny bags

QUETTA: The remains of four people stuffed into two gunny bags were found in a desolate place near a river in the troubled Panjgur district in western Balochistan on Thursday.

“There could be three or four dead bodies. I do not know the exact number as there are remains inside the gunny bags,” a police officer at the Panjgur Police Station told The Express Tribune.

A passersby spotted the bags and informed the police. The human remains were later transported to a state-run hospital in Panjgur.

The identities will be ascertained if DNA tests are conducted. Around 20 bodies have been found in different parts of Balochistan; however, their identities could not be ascertained as the forensic department in Balochistan does not have any facilities for DNA tests.

Samples sent to Lahore and Karachi for DNA tests previously have never returned.

The Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VFBMP), an organisation striving for the safe recovery of missing persons in Balochistan, says more than 2,000 dead bodies have been found in Balochistan and all were Baloch political activists.

The VFBMP accuses security forces of killing and dumping the bodies. However, security forces and the Home Department have denied all accusations and said they are being investigated.

Panjgur is one of the most troubled  districts in Balochistan, where target killings and clashes between security forces and separatists are a usual occurrence.
