PTI still ready to hold talks, says Qureshi
PTI vice president admits that Imran and Qadri also met in Lahore prior to the long march.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice President Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Monday that his party is still ready to hold talks with the government, Express News reported.
Talking to Express News anchor Javed Chaudhry on his show ‘Kal Tak’, the PTI vice president said, “We are still ready talks with government but it all depends on their intentions.”
Qureshi said that the government had yet to show seriousness in their talks.
Earlier, Qureshi rebutted questions raised by Khwaja Saad Rafique over Imran Khan’s reported meeting with Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Dr Tahirul Qadri in London and then in Lahore in the buildup to the march and subsequent sit-ins.
The senior PTI leader admitted that besides the London meeting, another meeting between Imran and Dr Qadri took place in Lahore. However, Qureshi said that the London meeting was not planned, and that he was not present for it.
Responding to the allegations hurled by the disgruntled PTI leader Javed Hashmi that Qureshi will never resign from the assembly, Qureshi said, “I had signed my resignation in the presence of Hashmi, in fact it was Hashmi, who hesitated before signing his resignation.”
Asked if Hashmi was still PTI’s president, Qureshi said that was not the case anymore since he had been issued a show cause notice.
Refuting the Hashmi’s claims that PTI chief Imran had promised him that he will not announce civil disobedience campaign, the PTI vice president said Hashmi was part of all decisions made by the party.
He alleged that Hashmi is contesting election in connivance with PPP and PML-N, and both parties had decided to support him.
“Whatever Hashmi is doing, he is doing according to an arrangement between him and PML-N,” Qureshi claimed.
PTI vice president rejected the allegations that he had join PTI on the behest of someone. He further rejected Hashmi’s claims that so far, the party had spent Rs1 billion on their 40 day sit-in.
Rebutting Hashmi’s allegations that Imran was being used by his comrades, Qureshi asked, “Do you think Imran is a simpleton?”
“It is all his imagination, Imran is a well groomed politician.”
Commenting on his meeting with US Ambassador, Qureshi says every time he met US envoy, he did it with Imran’s approval and briefed him after every meeting. However, every time he met the envoy, it was at the latter’s request.
Refuting the government’s allegations that the Chinese president had postponed his trip due to the PTI and PAT sit-ins, Qureshi claimed that they were ready to roll out the red carpet. The former foreign minister said the agreements to be signed during Xi Jinping’s visit were between the states of China and Pakistan, not with the government of PML-N. He added that the visit was postponed due to failures of the government.
