A step ahead: CM forms committee to identify lucrative tourist sites in Sukkur

SUKKUR: A three-member committee was formed by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah to identity the most lucrative tourist sites of the Sukkur division, come up with a plan for the sites’ development and projection, and eventually make them operational.

The committee will be headed by the special assistant for culture, along with the cultural secretary and Sukkur commissioner as its members, according to a statement. The chief minister was being briefed by the revenue department officials about the tourist sites and their status at the Circuit House on Friday. After listening to them, Shah decided to constitute the committee.

Sindh is a rich province of Pakistan both traditionally and culturally, he said, adding that even though Sindh has many sites that are lucrative for tourism, they are not being maintained due to a lack of interest. He said that while Sukkur alone has historic structures, such as Sukkur Barrage, Lansdowne Bridge, Sadhu Bella, Tombs of Seven Sisters and many others, but none of them are being utilised.

Citing the example of the Sindh Cultural Festival held at Moen jo daro, Shah said that Pakistan Peoples Party chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is taking an interest in promoting tourism through other such projects.

Shah directed the members of the committee to identify attractive tourist spots, prepare PC-1 for their development, create an environment for the promotion of the sites and enhance their attraction for the private sector. He said that the provincial government has spared development funds for culture and tourism departments.
