Armed assault: Militants ambush pro-govt tribal leader’s house

Assailants fired rockets in an<br /> attack which lasted an hour.

SHABQADAR: Militants attacked a pro-government tribal leader’s house at midnight on Tuesday in Babi Khel, Ghallani in Mohmand Agency.

A political administration official said 12 unidentified militants attacked pro-government Malik Khaista Gul at his house. Militants lobbed a hand grenade and also fired rocket shells at his house, he added.

The tribal leader’s guards put up resistance and an exchange of fire ensued. Khaista Gul’s 12-year-old grandson was injured and the house partially damaged. After an hour, the militant fled the scene.

The political administration launched a search operation, however, no suspects were arrested till the filing of this report.

Another grandson of Khaista Gul was killed by an unidentified militant a year ago.

In Safi tehsil, marble mine owner and tribal leader Malik Bakhtpoor was attacked in a similar manner. A hand grenade was lobbed inside his house at night but no casualties or damage to property was reported.

Arms recovered

Police officials in Sardheri arrested two suspects and recovered a large quantity of ammunitions.

According to a Sardheri police official, the police stopped a car and found dynamite, 40 detonators and 90 safety fuses inside. Two suspects, Maroof Shah and Haji Haya Khan, were arrested. An FIR has been lodged against them.
