PESHAWAR: Pakistan Chest Society (PCS) convened an emergency meeting on Wednesday to discuss the kidnapping attempt on its provincial president Dr Muhammad Nisar Khan.

The doctor—who is also the chief executive of Ayub Medical Complex—escaped a kidnapping attempt in Charsadda on Sunday. He was travelling with his technician Stephen Shahid from Charsadda to Abbottabad and was stopped by men in three cars near Samad Qilla. When Nisar resisted the attempt, the assailants opened fire at Shahid, who died later.

During the meeting, the society members condemned the incident. They appealed to the provincial government, chief minister and IGP to provide foolproof security to the doctors’ community and take action against the culprits. The PCS pledged full cooperation and support to Dr Nisar during the investigation of the incident.

Meanwhile, the Malgari Doctoran Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa also condemned the kidnapping attempt on Dr Nisar Khan.

At the forum’s meeting held on Wednesday, the president, Dr Saeedur Rehman, said with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s participation in the Azadi march in Islamabad, law and order in the province has significantly deteriorated. Kidnapping doctors for ransom has become a norm.

Members said PTI’s attitude to the problems in K-P is alarming as the activities of kidnappers and extortionists have not been checked. They added the attempts of violence on the doctors’ community have compelled medical practitioners to shift to other parts of the country.

The members appealed to the chief minister to take note of the kidnappings of doctors and adopt special measures for their security.
