Wheat yield enhancement: Development of pure seeds proposed

Scientists should use pure seeds for the National Uniform Wheat Yield Trials.

ISLAMABAD: A two-day review meeting on the Annual Wheat Planning and Productivity Enhancement Programme (WPEP) concluded here on Monday with comprehensive recommendations for developing pure seeds to promote the agriculture sector. Speaking at the concluding session, Pakistan Agricultural Research Council Chairman Dr Iftikhar said his organisation acknowledged the role of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), the International Maize and Wheat Centre (CIMMYT), the International Centre for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARD), other international agricultural development partners and provincial research institutions in improving wheat productivity in Pakistan. He was of the view that progressive farmers should also be invited for planning technical meetings and other research and development activities for close coordination and exchange of new knowledge and innovations to boost agricultural production in the country. They recommended that scientists should use pure seeds for the National Uniform Wheat Yield Trials.
