The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) apprehended a suspect allegedly involved in various criminal cases, including sectarian killings.
According to the SIU officials, Syed Mujahid Ali, son of Syed Anjum Ali was arrested during a raid conducted on a tip-off in Pak Colony. They also claimed to have seized weapons from him. SIU officials said that the accused had recently killed two men - Faraz and Danish. He also killed a man identified as Yasir over the suspicion that he was a police informant.
The SIU chief, SP Farooq Awan, said that besides his involvement in target killing, the man was also involved in various cases of street crimes in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Sharae Faisal and Nursery in which he had shot and injured several people over offering resistance.
The Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested an alleged target killer identified as Arif Khan, son of Mian Jan Khan and recovered weapons from him. According to CID officials, the arrest was made during a targeted raid conducted on a tip-off at near Dhobi Ghat in Garden. The police claimed that he was wanted in several cases, including the murder of policemen.
In another raid, the Rangers claim to have apprehended seven suspects from Landhi and Sohrab Goth. The Rangers spokesperson said that seven criminals, including a member of a banned outfit, were arrested along with weapons during the raids. The suspects were shifted to undisclosed location for further questioning.
Three workers of a political party were also apprehended during a targeted raid conducted by law enforcement agencies in Landhi. Sources said that the suspects were identified as Zafar, Ahmed and Enayat. However, Ahmed and Enayat were later released while Zafar remained in the custody.
Two more suspects allegedly involved in various cases of street crime were arrested after an exchange of fire with the police at Shaheed-e-Millat Road in Ferozabad. Police officials said that the accused were arrested after an encounter when the police were doing their routine snap checks and tried to intercept them. Instead of stopping the motorcycle, the armed men tried to escape under a cover of fire.
Another suspect was arrested during an alleged encounter with the police in Landhi. The accused was later identified as Ishaq Ahmed Ansari. Police officials said that he was arrested during snap-checking.
