Talking to media at the Office of Deputy Commissioner Jaffarabad, Zain Bin Maqsood on Friday, Bazai said that there was no flood threat in the above mentioned districts as both the population centres were far away from Indus River but in case of a breach, the Sindh government would be solely responsible for devastation.
“Balochistan’s economy suffered billions of losses, apart from 16 people losing their lives when Tori dyke was last breached in 2010, the secretary irrigation said.
He added that irrigation land in both districts had suffered huge losses over the last three years because of floods, adding that he would visit the Tori protection dyke to monitor the situation, soon.
Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department and its staff has been placed on high alert with heavy machinery in place to cope with any kind of flood-like situation.
"Staff holidays of the Irrigation Department and Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) have been cancelled," Bazi said.
Meanwhile, PDMA handed over relief goods, including tents and ration, to the district administration.
