Know your province: Cultural awareness programme to start

The awareness campaign will include visits to historical sites such as Shahbaz Garhi, Takht Bhai and others.

PESHAWAR: The Tourism Corporation Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) is going to start an awareness programme to teach people about cultural diversity and the historic significance of the province. The programme was initiated on the instructions of Tourism Secretary Azam Khan and Zahoor Ahmad Durrani of TCKP will be the organising consultant. It will include a show on Radio Pakistan called Shaheen and its aim will be to make the province’s children aware of their culture and heritage. The awareness campaign will include visits to historical sites such as Shahbaz Garhi, Takht Bhai and others. In the initial stages, some 30 students will be invited and given information about the historical and cultural importance of K-P. According to the K-P director of archaeology, Abdul Samad, barely 3% to 4% of the people have any knowledge about archaeology and the importance of museums in the province. The cultural and heritage awareness programme will also include a three-day fair at Gor Gathri.
