The superior bars have strongly condemned the statement of former Punjab law minister Rana Sanaullah to move the Supreme Judicial Council against Lahore High Court judge Justice Ali Baqar Najfi, who was probing the Model Town incident.
Supreme Court Bar Association president Kamran Murtaza said former Punjab law minster should refrain from giving such statements against any judge of superior court.
In a statement issued by Pakistan Bar Council, its executive committee chairman Abrar Hasan said, “I strongly condemn the statement of Sanaullah regarding going to the SJC against Justice Najfi and expressed the resolve of the legal fraternity that if any effort is made to overawe the honourable judge, the lawyers community will stand behind him to safeguard the integrity of the institution.”
It said that Justice Najfi was appointed as a one-man tribunal by Punjab government itself to probe the June 17 Model Town incident, when 14 innocent persons were killed.
“It is highly condemnable that some individuals are all out to malign the honourable judge at behest of the government,” the statement added.
“I, therefore, warn that if any material move is made against Justice Najfi, the lawyers will launch a protest campaign against the government as the bar has always strived for independence of judiciary and the rule of law and is committed to do so in future as well,” it concluded.

He is above the law as long as Shreif brothers hands are on his shoulder. This is democracy and part of constitution. Get used to it or move out.
Rana Sanaullah should be behind bars and tried for mass murder. Just look at him he is clearly a murderer and has the audacity to lecture the public on morality..what a shame
