Rescue efforts continued in flood-hit areas of Jhang and Athara Hazari on Thursday with nearly 5,000 people moved to safer places by Pakistan Army.    


According to a spokesman of Jhang flood control centre, three army companies were using seven helicopters and 100 motorboats to shift people from flood-hit areas to relief camps.

He said four helicopters had been reserved in Mai Heer Stadium and these would be used in case of an emergency.

He said nearly 250 villages in Jhang, Athara Hazari, Ahmad Pur Sial and Shorkot had been inundated.

The local administration is also arranging six Madni Dastar Khawans in flood-hit areas of Jhang.

DCO Noorul Amin Mengal said Assistant Commissioner Sadar Malik Mushtaq Towana would supervise Madni Dastar Khawans and ensure distribution of food among people.

He said financial assistance for Dastar Khawans was provided by philanthropists of Faisalabad.

The DCO appealed to local traders, exporters, industrialists and businessmen to donate generously for rehabilitation of flood victims.
