Not budging: District govt, interior ministry ‘reminded’ to vacate schools

ISLAMABAD:

The Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) has sent another reminder to the Interior Ministry requesting that 27 schools and colleges that are being occupied by out-of-town security officials be vacated, citing the disruption of academic activity.

The letter was sent following the direction of the Islamabad High Court to the district government on September 9 to vacate the institutions in one week.

CADD has written the letter after constant pressure from parents and students worried by the halt of education activities since August 11, when summer vacations in Islamabad were initially scheduled to end.

“We have written another letter because we have no option but to start academic activities in these institutes,” confirmed CADD Additional Secretary Qaiser Majeed. He said they had suggested that the security officials either shift to Pakistan Sports Complex or Lok Virsa.

The Islamabad High Court had directed the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration to vacate schools occupied by policemen from Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir and FC personnel and provide the security officials with alternative lodging. A detailed report is also due in the next hearing.
