Briefing the US Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs, the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) -- a US government agency responsible for national and international counterterrorism efforts -- also said the US continues to monitor if any terrorist groups, networks, or individuals in Pakistan are actively pursuing or have decided to incorporate operations outside of South Asia as a strategy to achieve their objectives.
“[The TTP’s] claim of responsibility for the June attack on the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi that killed about 30 people underscores the threat the group poses inside the country,” said NTDC Deputy Director Nicholas Rasmussen.
Further, Ramussen also addressed the threat that Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) posed to the US.
“Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is against improving relations between India and Pakistan, and its leaders consistently speak out against India and the United States, accusing both countries of trying to destabilise Pakistan,” said Ramussen.
The Senate committee was told that LeT leaders “recognised that an attack on the US would result in intense international backlash against Pakistan” which would “endanger the group’s safe haven there”.
The NCTC Deputy Director added that LeT provides “training to Pakistani and Western militants, some of whom could plot terrorist attacks in the West without direction from LeT leadership”.

@Syed Jalal Kashmiri: Even if Kashmir & Palestine are freed , Hamas & Lashkar would exist , it is afterall a continued aspiration to re-establish the " Perso-Arabic imperialism " from Spain to South Asia , including in their theory India ,Nepal & Sri Lanka that keeps them activated.
And you know what they will never be challenged from open-minded people in Muslim community as such a thing barely exists.
Some politicians disagree and claim that "they are our poor Muslim brothers".
Lashkar is no threat to the US. The US just enjoys keeping Muslim nations under perpetual occupation to keep their Muslim hating friends happy. If Palestine and Kashmir are freed and independent, Lashkar or Hamas wouldn't be needed.
Touched on LeT too. Extremism in all forms needs to be clamped down on including militant camps which just foster a jihadist Al Qaeda mentality. The irony in LeT's claim of other nations destabilizing it, when they are the threat themselves and not doing Pak any favour.
@News Sources:WASHINGTON DC: The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) remains a significant threat in Pakistan despite the ongoing military operation in North Waziristan and leadership changes during the past year, a US Senate committee was informed on Wednesday....."
PTI, their friend in Pakistan proper, doesn't agree with that.
It is no secret that terrorist organizations like the TTP remain focused on destabilizing Pakistan. The recent attack by the TTP on Navy Dockyard in Karachi again reminds us that these terrorist organizations are willing to cross all lines for the sake of achieving their terrorist agenda. To make matters worse, TTP regularly issue threats against our governments. It was also reported recently that the ISIS were spreading their influence by distributing pamphlets in Peshawar and border provinces of Afghanistan. To say the least, it remains imperative for us to stay united against those who are working against our shared peace objectives in the region. We repeat what Josh Earnest, White House Press Secretary, said recently: “We want to continue to work with Pakistan to deal with what we believe is a common challenge and a common threat faced by both our countries and by Afghanistan, as well. And that's extremists and the safe haven and the sanctuary that they continue to enjoy in Pakistan, but the Pakistani military has taken action against some of those extremist threats inside their own country.
