Youth carnival kicks off

Almost 1500 students will participate in activities and competitions that have been lined up for the four-day event.

ISLAMABAD: Thousands of students danced to the beat of drums to show their support for participants of the ‘Youth Carnival’, which kicked off at Open Air Theatre, Shakarparian, on Thursday.

Numerous cultural activities and sports competitions have been lined up for the four-day event, which has been organised by the Express Media Group.

These include culture performing arts, martial arts competition, fashion shows and various others. Similarly, football, cricket, volleyball and badminton competitions amongst the students of various institutions will also be held.

Students taking part in the event expressed their excitement about the carnival. Anila Qureshi said, “The arrangements have been completed and we are all looking forward to the carnival. I hope my school wins.” Hamza, another student, said that he was preparing hard to do his school proud.

Almost fifteen hundred students from thirty different institutions will participate in the competition. Fatimah Jinnah Women University, Hamdard University, Comsats Wah, Riphah International University and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology along with others will take part in the event.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Justice Tariq Bashir, who was also the special guest, said that the group had served the nation and such activities would help in boosting the morale of the citizens in such critical times.

On the occasion, member of the organising committee and Managing Director of the Masscomm Solution, Qamar Chaudhry said that Pakistani youth was full of talent but they were not provided with any opportunities. “Such events would enable them to showcase their skills,” he added.
