Counter attack: Imran pledges to rout JUI-F in next elections

PTI chief to start touring flood-hit areas from today.

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Monday promised that his party would end the political career of Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of his eponymous faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), in the next general elections.

Addressing thousands of his cheering supporters at Islamabad’s D-Chowk, Imran singled out the politico-religious cleric for leading ‘vicious propaganda’ against female participants of the PTI Dharna. “We will never spare you and will put an end to your political career in the next general elections,” he said addressing Maulana Fazl who has been very vocal in his criticism of the PTI and its sit-in.

The PTI chief also questioned the silence of all political parties who have admitted that the 2013 parliamentary elections were massively rigged. Imran revealed that PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari had told him in a recent telephone call that the 2013 poll was the “elections of retuning officers”. “Despite accepting this fact, why is he not agitating the issue,” he questioned.

Replying to his own question, Imran said Zardari was aware that the PML-N rigged the elections in Punjab and the PPP in Sindh. “They fear that if the election audit is conducted, both parties will be exposed,” he added.

The PTI chief also referred to the by-elections in PK-68 (DI Khan) where his party’s candidate defeated his rival jointly fielded by five political parties.

Talking about the devastation wrought by the recent floods, Imran lashed out at Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for not putting in place making precautionary measures. “I’ll start touring the flood-hit areas from today (Wednesday),” he added.
