At least 10 suspected terrorists have been killed as helicopter gunships pounded their hideouts in North Waziristan Agency, the army said on Monday in the latest updates on Operation Zarb-e-Azb. The air blitz took place in Boya and Degan areas which were considered a stronghold of foreign militants, including Uzbeks.
The military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), stated that a precise strike on hideouts destroyed an explosives dump and five vehicles. The latest casualties put the number of suspected militants so far killed in Operation Zarb-e-Azb at 920.
The operation was launched in June this year after efforts to strike a peace deal with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliates failed. As many as 82 soldiers have also lost their lives in North Waziristan and other parts of the country where security forces were carrying out targeted operations to preempt any backlash from the Waziristan operation.
According to the military’s media wing, security forces have cleared major towns of Miramshah, Mirali, Datta Khel, Boya and Degan. As many as 27 IED factories, one rocket and an ammunitions factory have been destroyed.
