ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police Friday claimed to have arrested three men for their alleged involvement in car lifting in various areas of the city and recovered four stolen cars from their possession.

A team of Islamabad police, including assistant sub-inspectors Manzoor Elahi, Nadir Ali and others raided a hideout in Mardan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and arrested Zawar, Adnan and Azmat.

The police recovered two cars (IDM-2072 and MV-023) from their possession stolen from Islamabad. The police added that legal formalities were being fulfilled to transfer the suspects to Islamabad.

Separately, the police recovered two cars (WV-415 and an applied for registration) in a raid near Motorway in the jurisdiction of the Ramna police on Friday but arrested no culprit.  The cars were stolen from G-10 sector.

AIG (Operations), Sultan Azam Temuri, said that the police were making efforts to curb car lifting in the city. Several suspects involved in carjacking have been apprehended due to enhanced coordination between capital police and their counterparts in other districts.

The AIG also ordered police to keep a vigilant eye on the activities of the former convict car lifters so that the gangs involved in car theft and other crimes could be busted.
